“It was a crazy race because of the wet weather,” said Erks. “But we were patient and waited it out. I didn’t let it affect us. We had three timed runs, but by the time eliminations came around the weather was completely different.”

One by one, Erks climbed the racing ladder. “It was intimidating, because we  knocked off some big names,” he said. “We faced other national event winners and a world champion.”

In the final round the air temperature was 82 degrees, relative humidity 26 percent and a track temperature of 117 degrees. Erks beat Steve Cohen for his first national event win of the year and tenth overall.

Erks uses K&N Engineering products. “K&N gave me a flawless performance as usual. Years ago we had other oil filters collapse on us while we were racing. With our K&N oil filter (HP-3002) it takes the pressure off because K&N holds up on all our racing vehicles.” The K&N sponsored racer plans to run 14 national and 8 divisional races this year.
