The Adelanto Grand Prix in Adelanto, California was filled with waves of expert 85 cc motorcycle racers. K&N Engineering Graphic Designer Jeremy Templeman started behind one of those waves in the beginner section in his 125 cc motorcycle.

“It was a dead-engine start,” said Templeman. “Meaning after they dropped the flag I kick-started my bike, slammed it in gear and went. Fortunately my bike started quickly.”

Templeman hit the dirt and headed off into the desert. The only flat sections of the course were the pavement. All else were abusive whoops or washboard bumps and a lot of racers crashed. “K&N Engineering Power Sports Brand Manger John Jump gave me a heads up,” said Templeman. “He let me know how dangerous it is when you hit a straight section at high speeds and I kept my straight-away speeds just below the level of losing control.”

There is another spot on the course where the drop off had the police radios buzzing with broken bones all weekend. “On the second lap I carried more speed on the drop off and scared myself,” said Templeman. “I managed to keep my bike upright. My K&N air filter provided excellent filtration and kept the dirt out of my engine during the dusty race”

The mud-hole jump is notorious because most riders don’t see it coming. “I took the bypass which had a tough whoop section,” said Templeman. “It worked out better than going end over end like a few riders did over the mud-hole.”

Templeman rode aggressively and accelerated hard out of turns and braked as late as possible going into the turns. Overall he was 30th out of 173 and 10th in Class in the 125 Novice.

“My K&N air filter provided excellent filtration,” said Templeman. “It also kept the dirt out of my engine during the dusty race.”
