On Sunday, Schatz began 2008 by picking up the $50,000 to win Bevelite Glass Classic at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway near Sydney. He raced the No. 15 J&J with K&N Engineering products from the third starting position in the 40-lap race. On lap ten, he passed Robbie Farr for the lead and never looked back for his fifth consecutive win in the $50,000 event.

Sunday’s finale was originally scheduled for Saturday night, but rain forced officials to postpone the program until Sunday. “I’ve got to thank the fans for sticking with us after the rain,” said Schatz. “We always like to come to Australia and race.”

Fifty-six cars came back to finish off the event on Sunday including K&N sponsored racer Jonathan Allard. The former Golden State Challenge Series champion battled in and around the top five for most of the race. At one point Allard was able to get by Australian champion Garry Brazier for fourth place, but lost it shortly and crossed the finish line in fifth place. It was a very good start for Allard and he hopes to continue the momentum over the next couple of weeks.

Schatz will also continue his tour down under with two more weekends of action. He is scheduled to compete at the Titan Garanges Brisbane International Speedway in the Wanless World Series Sprintcars Championship Finale. Allard and the Williams Motorsports team are scheduled to return to action this Saturday for a track point race at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway.
