Paul Zimmerly of Ridgefield, Washington has three years of pavement midget experience. The 20-year-old’s best finish is 2nd place at the 2007 Gerhardt Classic. Zimmerly has several fast qualifier awards as well as top finishes in 2007 USAC races.
Nic Faas is from Huntington Beach, California. The 18-year-old is a fourth generation racer. Faas has two years Focus midget racing experience with a 2006 and 2007 California dirt championship.
Also new to Western Speed Racing is Tim Skoglund from Fresno, California. The 20-year-old recently completed his second consecutive California Ford Focus Pavement midget championship.
Chase Scott, 21, of Concord, North Carolina is a three time consecutive year USAC Carolina Ford Focus Midget champion. “We feel that these are some of the best up and coming open wheel drivers,” said Kevin Gerhardt of Western Speed Racing. “We plan on running Paul and Nic in the full midgets on the West Coast pavement and selected dirt events as well as selected National Midget Events. Tim and Chase will compete for the full Western States USAC Sprint Car Championship.”
Western Speed Racing’s most recent big win was at Turkey Night at Irwindale with the first Toyota Powered Sprint Car. “Their Ford Focus midget team just won the Western States paved midget championship,” said K&N Engineering Sports Marketing Director Charles Maier. “When they show up, everyone knows the team is ready to do business. K&N is happy to be a part of it and look forward to this next season with two sprinters and two midgets running with Toyota power and K&N filters.”
