Julie Stepan went to her first race track when she was only six weeks old. “It’s always been in my blood,” said the 21-year-old racer. “There is nothing else I’d rather be doing.”

Stepan currently races a 2007 Chevy Cobalt in the NHRA Sport Compact Series. She began racing 13 years ago behind the wheel of a NHRA Jr. Dragster. Stepan worked on her skills in Jr. Dragster until her parents bought a 1968 Chevy Camaro for her 16th birthday. Within a few months she was racing in the Super Comp class.

Stepan graduated high school in 2004 and her life took another turn a few months later. “I entered the Easy Street Motorsports’ Maximum Velocity Female Driver Search,” she said. “I had solid racing experience and was chosen as one of the eight finalists. I gave up my weekends in high school to race and it paid off. Racing is the most important thing to me.”

Stepan met the Easy Street challenge and won. “I moved to California from Grand Prairie, Texas to be with the race team,” she said. “It was the biggest decision of my life, but it was awesome to practice in a 1,000-horsepower Subaru STi. My first run was at Irwindale Dragstrip. I was a little nervous, but when I started the car I was ready.”

Stepan was soon contesting in the Sport Compact Series. In 2005-2006, she drove in the Sport Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) category, earning 10 career NHRA Wally Trophies and the coveted Sport RWD Series Championship Crown in 2006.

In 2007, Stepan joined Marty Ludwing Racing to contest the NHRA Xplod Sport Compact Series behind the wheel of a 2007 Chevy Cobalt in the All Motor Category.

“I have used K&N Engineering products my whole racing career,” said Stepan. “All the cars I’ve raced with seem to perform best with K&N. Stepan’s next race will be October 6 and 7 at Englishtown, New Jersey.
