The 37th Annual K&N Filters SuperNationals presented by Strauss Auto at Old
Bridge Township Raceway Park is the 11th of 23 in the $50 million NHRA POWERade
Drag Racing Series.
For NHRA Racer Dan Fletcher it was his 40th National event win. The Stock
Eliminator racer is having a good run. The week before the K&N SuperNationals he
won Stock at Chicagoland Speedway. Two weeks earlier, Fletcher won Stock at the
Mopar Canadian Nationals in Grand Bend, Ontario. He also won the IHRA season
opener in San Antonio, Texas in March, and the Super Stock division at the NHRA
national event at Firebird International Raceway in Chandler, Arizona.

A final round victory over John Shaul secured Englishtown for Fletcher.
Shaul broke out as he tried to beat Fletcher at the finish line. “I was quicker
at the starting line in that race,” he said.
Before he was in the final round, Fletcher beat Tim Abbazia in the first round
of eliminations. “Every round was tough, but my second-round victory over Steve
Welker was significant,” he said. “I was 0.001 (seconds) at the tree and got
away with it. Keep in mind a 0.001 second reaction time is just two thousandths
of a second away from being a red light.”
One of the highlights of E-Town was celebrating with Competition Eliminator
winner Sal Biondo, said Fletcher. “He is my best friend and it was very cool.”
“I drag race for a living, virtually every weekend,” said Fletcher. “I had a
boss who was making my life miserable and quit my day job in 1997. Sometimes I
lose for 6 or 8 weeks and sometimes I win three races in a row.” Fletcher won
the last three in his blue 1969 Camaro Stocker. Fletcher also uses K&N
Engineering Air and Oil filters.
The Churchville, New York resident is on his way to Pennsylvania this week to
have his engine serviced. “I ran my 69 on the same motor 240 times. That’s much
longer than a stock eliminator motor should be in a race car,” said Fletcher.
“Thanks to the K&N Oil and Air Filters my engine has outlasted and
outperformed.”

Fletcher wins three in a row
Fletcher said he spends weeks on the road, driving from race to race from
about the middle of February to the middle of November. “It’s not easy being a
full-time sportsman racer,” Fletcher said. “The hard part is being away from
home all the time and away from the family.”
He said he will take a little bit of time off to go to his brother-in-law’s
wedding. “I’m not going to St. Louis to race, but I will head out to the NHRA
Northeast Division points race at Lebanon Valley Dragway in New York.” The West
Lebanon race is scheduled for June 30th through July 2nd.
