HOMESTEAD, Fla. -- The Indy Racing League and K&N Engineering, the world's leader in performance filter technology, have announced a partnership that makes the Riverside, Calif.-based company the Official Air Filter Used by the IRL IndyCar® Series.
The agreement is a multi-faceted marketing partnership and includes television, radio, print and internet advertising. Additionally, K&N will partner with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway serving as the Official Performance Filter of the Indianapolis 500-Mile Race and offering a $10,000 performance-based prize award for the Indianapolis 500 (details to be announced at a later date).
"We are proud to officially partner with the 'World's Best Performance Air Filter' for the 2005 season," said Ken Ungar, Senior Vice President of Business Affairs for the Indy Racing League. "With its commitment to quality, excellence and innovation, K&N's product enhances on-track performance as the only air filter used by the IndyCar Series. Additionally, K&N's relentless drive and race-bred innovation provide a unique marketing platform that aligns well with the IndyCar Series brand."
All IndyCar Series teams use the same K&N Air Filter - a filter shape designed specifically and exclusively for the IndyCar Series using the same technology found in K&N's popular filtration products for street vehicles. To maintain consistency, all K&N IndyCar Series Air Filters are tested by K&N on an airflow bench before being shipped to the respective engine builders.
"K&N's relationship with the IndyCar Series has grown over the past years," said K&N CEO Steve Rogers. "Today, K&N is the only air filter used by the IndyCar Series. As a company that built our reputation on strong performance, K&N couldn't be happier to take our relationship with the IndyCar Series to the next level. The cars in this series are some of the most technically advanced in all of motorsports and their choice of filters shows a commitment to using only the best components."
K&N will also have additional presence on-site with K&N's event support tractor-trailer attending events on the schedule. K&N attends more than 100 events annually with their events support program. K&N is heavily involved in nearly every form of motorsports from off-road and powersports to drag racing, stock cars and road racing.
"At 220 mph, you need the best performing air filter available," said Kevin "Rocket" Blanch, 2-time IndyCar Series Champion as chief mechanic for Panther Racing and current IndyCar Series technical official. "The K&N air filter had the best overall performance of any air filter the IndyCar Series tested. That's why the IndyCar Series exclusively uses K&N Air Filters; no other filter can match its level of performance. K&N's unmatched durability and reliability gives our drivers and crew members peace of mind. It's one less thing to for them to worry about."
